The city attorney is authorized and empowered to take appeals, with the consent of the council in all cases, when, in his or her opinion, the interests of the city require it, and to prosecute and defend the same in the supreme and superior courts, and, for the purpose of carrying into effect the provisions of this section, he or she is hereby authorized to make the necessary affidavits, and to make and execute, in the name of the city of Anacortes, the necessary appeal or other bonds, and sign the name of the city thereto by himself or herself as city attorney.
