The salary of the deputy clerk-treasurer shall be in such sum as the city council shall provide. The deputy clerk is authorized to carry out the functions and perform the duties of the office of the city clerk-treasurer in the absence of the city clerk-treasurer, he or she shall assist the city clerk-treasurer, and he or she shall perform such other duties as the laws of the state, the ordinances of the city and the orders of the city council shall require.
