The caseload of the public defender’s office should allow each lawyer in the office to give each client the time and effort necessary to ensure effective representation. The public defender’s office should not accept workloads that, by reason of their excessive size, interfere with the rendering of quality representation. The caseload of a full time public defender shall not exceed the standards for indigent defense adopted by the Washington Supreme Court (as of January 1, 2015, 400 unweighted misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor cases per attorney per year).
